WHAT IS POWER

POWER CALENDAR OF EVENTS

As P.O.W.E.R. Coordinator I would like to take this time to say thank you to each and everyone who participate in making the Halloween Bash (view 2008 halloween photos)  a delight.  Allow me to start with the ticket sellers who over extend themselves; to the buyers who participated in the purchase of tickets those of you who was able to attend; the workers who help decorate the room the night of the event, to the servers and to include the clean-up crew.  The evening would not have happen without all of you.  I have received very positive feed back, everyone had a ball. Thank you for your support.

The APWU P.O.W.E.R. (Post Office Women for Equal Rights) is the women’s committee within the American Postal Workers Union. It unites women, with their special concerns, yet works within the framework of the national APWU organization. MCAL general membership authorized to send four P.O.W.E.R. delegates to attend the APWU P.O.W.E.R. Eastern & Northeast Regions Educational Conference on Wednesday, October 29 – Saturday, November 1, 2008 held at the Sheraton Atlantic City Hotel, Two Miss America Way, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Each day was a full day; there was a session on depression which a certified specialist who presented slides and answer questions on identifying depression.  Most of us men and women ignore our body, a lot of time we are in denial.  The session was very informational.  NBA, Lamont Brooks, taught a class in excessing, Article 12 of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) most post offices are experiencing the action of excessing nationwide, this class was much needed.   There was discussion on APWU headquarters’ making cuts to the budget.   P.O.W.E.R. and a couple of other conference have been included in the cut.  It has been decided to cut the P.O.W.E.R. regional conferences, each region will share its on expense; but the P.O.W.E.R. conventions which are every other year will remain in the APWU budget.

The Montgomery County Area Local, P.O.W.E.R. delegates received a lot of attention while wearing their P.O.W.E.R. shirts.  Our shirts were a two day conversation the Sisters’ from the Eastern and Northeast regions wanted us to take their orders.
